I took an early interest in upholstery and music. I accepted my first offer of employment with the National Welsh Bus Company in 1977, at the age of 16 years. Whilst there I completed a 4 year City & Guilds apprenticeship: I year course in Mechanics at Nash Technical College, Newport; 2 year course in Upholstery at Bower Ashton, Bristol, followed by a 1 year course in Advanced Upholstery.
I married in 1985, have 2 adult children and am a guitarist in the local band . I was offered a position at Nimbus Records in 1987. 2 years later, encouraged by family and friends, I decided to take up self-employment and start my own business. Hence "Springs & Things", Station Road, Chepstow, was created and became a huge success. I was swamped with recommendations by satisfied customers and had to take on extra staff. I have reupholstered all sorts of furniture, mainly sofas, chairs, office chairs and seating, reception lounges, antiques, vintage cars and JCB seats. I reluctantly decided to close my business in 2001 and took up a full time position at Chepstow Bus & Coach depot. Now my children are adults leaving me free of commitments, so I have decided to return to self-employment and continue at what I enjoy doing best - upholstery of all varieties of furniture."
